Hyundai Sonata Reviews –A Retake
Cars | December 13, 2010Hyundai Motors first foray into the midsize family sedan bracket was with the Hyundai Sonata and well, way back in 1989, the general car buying public in North America didn’t take kindly to it. It lacked quality interiors, had weak engines and overall a cheapness associated with Hyundai small cars. Even Hyundai Sonata reviews for the first generation model said the same. Taking heed of this Hyundai refreshed the Hyundai Sonata and gave it a cool styling with some very good interior trims and made it all the more upmarket. Later Hyundai Sonata reviews reflect this.

Overall, the Hyundai Sonata for the 2011 year cannot be related to the first generation car and it is only the badge which is similar. The new car sports Hyundai’s new “fluidic design” theme and is the new corporate face for Hyundai. The head lamps are more extended now and it has a slightly coupe sort of look towards the rear. That saying, the EPA has classified it as a full size family sedan. As with any Hyundai, even this is packed to the gills with features. Interior comfort was never a problem for the Hyundai Sonata and this car carries forward the same values. Front passengers get heated seats and the other worth mentioning features are sunroof, navigation system and upgraded audio system. Every Sonata uses a 2.4 liter engine from the beginning and the 2011 model is no different. It features a 2.4 liter 4 cylinder direct injection engine which makes 198 HP of power and 184 pound feet of torque. There is an optional smooth shifting 6 speed auto and on the base trim, a 6 speed manual is standard. Combined to the aerodynamic new face, Sonata is now more than eager to dive in to corners. It had a plush ride quality and that is still present however the corner carving capabilities are now in the same ballpark as the Honda Accord. The steering is an entirely new unit with precision tuned into it. It is nimble and lithe at city speeds whereas on the highway, the unit weighs up nicely providing for a better handling experience. Its NVH characteristics are also nicely damped and it has a solid build quality feel to it.

This can be verified from any Hyundai Sonata reviews abounding in all the magazines now that the 2011 car is now more fuel efficient than its predecessor. Indeed it now finishes on top of the charts. It gives 28 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway. The Hyundai Sonata is quite an easy car to live with and given its 10 year long engine warranty, it is a hoot to own as well. Hyundai cars in general are reliable and the Hyundai Sonata is no different. Its road manners have now improved and probably, it is the new king for the mid size luxury car throne. Honda should already be rushing back to is drawing rooms to chalk out a worthy rival for the Sonata in their Accord sedan. There are 3 trim level to choose from and even the base variant is suitably stocked up. This makes it exceptional value for money considering the base price of $18,700.
